How to Use your TIMBAR

Before you fire it up, let's make sure everything's dialled in. Follow the steps below, and you'll be ready to cut in no time.

Step 1
Check Compatibility

TIMBAR™ fits most major electric and gas-powered pole saw brands, but compatibility varies by model. The quickest way to check yours:

  1. Find your pole saw's brand and model number: You'll usually find it on the saw housing.
  2. Use the Compatibility Checker below: Select your brand and model to see if TIMBAR fits.
  3. Don't see your saw listed? Measure from the centre of the drive sprocket to the edge of the housing. If it's less than 4", your saw may be compatible.

Step 3
Before You Cut

Before every use, run through this quick pre-use check to make sure your TIMBAR™ assembly is safe and ready to work. It takes less than two minutes and can save you a lot of trouble in the field.

  • Remove the power source — always disconnect before inspecting.
  • Check all bolts — ensure every fastener is snugged up tight.
  • Check chain tension — adjust if needed before starting.
  • Check oil levels — confirm there is sufficient bar and chain oil.
  • Inspect the torque arm and bar — look for damage, debris, or anything jammed inside the assembly. Everything should move freely with no obstructions.
Step 4
Proper Cutting Techniques

With everything checked and installed, you're ready to cut. Follow these techniques to get the most out of every cut.

  • Find stable footing — before you start, make sure you're standing on solid, level ground with a clear stance.
  • Position yourself to the side — never stand directly under the branch. Stand to the side so falling debris doesn't come down on you.
  • Apply a smooth, gentle forward motion — don't force it. Let the torque arm assembly do the work and pull the branch into the chain naturally.
  • Throttle down between cuts — every time you complete a cut, throttle down before repositioning. Don't move with the saw at full speed.
  • Maintain steady forward pressure — consistent, even pressure gives you cleaner cuts and reduces the chance of the chain binding or skipping.
Maintenance
Chain Replacement

Replacing your chain is quick and straightforward. Always disconnect the power source first, then follow these steps.

  • Remove power source and detach the TIMBAR™ arm
  • Remove sprocket gear cover
  • Slacken chain, then remove bar and chain
  • Slide chain off the TIMBAR™ arm
  • Install new chain — teeth facing the correct direction (see quick start guide for more details)
  • Seat chain properly in the bar grooves and set chain tension
  • Replace sprocket cover, tighten bar nut

No. Apply a smooth, gentle forward motion and let the torque arm do the work, it pulls the branch into the chain naturally. Forcing or pushing down on the cut won't speed things up and can lead to chatter or an uneven cut.
Yes. TIMBAR™ is designed for cutting vegetation, including branches, brush, brambles, and general overgrowth. It's not intended for construction materials such as lumber or wood products.
The roller wheel helps guide and stabilize the arm against the branch, making it easier to glide into position, including underneath a branch for a clean undercut, without fighting the angle or the weight of the material.
